Otter Tail Lakes Country Fishing Report - 6/5/17

Here's your Otter Tail Lakes Country Panfish Report from Jesse Thalmann of Slab Seeker Fishing. To book a trip, call 320-290-2035.

"Water temps have rebounded quite nicely this week and we are seeing temps in the upper 60's and even touching 70 degrees on smaller shallow lakes. Bluegills are now starting to spawn on most of the smaller to midsize lakes in the area. The larger lakes will not be far behind. Bluegills will typically select protected shallow areas with some sort of cover to build their nesting sites. A lot of times I will be targeting sandy hard bottom flats near some new weed growth, bulrushes, creeks and smaller bays. Most of the time your bigger sized fish will be the first ones to spawn. While a lot of the fish are spawning in couple feet of water don't be afraid to look for beds a little deeper in the 7-10 feet of water, especially in clear water lakes. Many times some of those bigger size fish are out a little deeper. It is absolutely critical this time of year, and all year for that matter, to practice selective harvest and catch and release. Releasing those large males to pass on their genetics is a huge part in keeping the size structure up in our lakes."
